Where to go in autumn?

The Iberian Peninsula is a perfect region to travel in autumn thanks to its warm temperatures and coastal areas, which help regulate the climate and prevent temperatures from dropping too much during the cold season. However, it’s important to consider its climate characteristics if you want to ensure a more enjoyable camper trip:

  • The northern part of the peninsula, despite being one of the most beautiful areas, is usually colder and more humid. Weather is more changeable and it tends to rain more than in other parts of the peninsula throughout the year, so in autumn the chances of rainy weather are quite high. Keep this in mind when packing if you still want to enjoy these lands. That said, its gastronomic and cultural scene is very rich, so you’ll have plenty of options for indoor tourism anyway!

  • If you prefer traveling through rural areas and doing routes, you probably prefer to make sure it doesn’t rain. Don’t worry—you have plenty of options! The eastern and southern parts of the peninsula are particularly dry, both inland and along the coast. It’s worth noting that on the Valencian coast, although it doesn’t rain often, in autumn there can sometimes be heavy rainfall. You should stay alert to this type of weather, as it can be torrential and pose risks if catch you off guard. This is much less common in Andalusia and Murcia. Areas like Almería are exceptionally dry and warm—in fact, autumn is one of the best times of the year to visit! The rest of Andalusia and the southern part of Portugal are also excellent, although as you move toward the Atlantic coast, the climate becomes slightly cooler and more humid.

  • Castile and Extremadura, the inland regions of the peninsula, are also warm and dry, although temperatures can drop more at night. Nothing that duvets and blankets—provided when you book your camper van—can’t fix! So don’t underestimate the natural and cultural wonders of the many places in inland Spain that you’ll discover on a trip through Castile. It’s a region that offers endless possibilities for travel.
